Special thanks to recent donors!

Many people and businesses have been involved to help make the former elementary school and green-space available as a community resource since 2009 when the Lyle School Board allowed a group of volunteers to manage the building and green-space for all to enjoy.

It is an old school building, built in 1949 and not used as a school for over 20 years, that needed much basic work just to get to code compliance, let alone fixing basic electrical, plumbing and heating. The green-space has been improved with a picnic pavilion built by community volunteers and a new sprinkler system that keeps it green in the summer.

These are only a few of the most recent angels... there have been many since 2009!  Please visit our Norm White Memorial page to read about one of our most dedicated community members who we recently lost.

A big thanks to Brendon Stewart and Jesse Reynolds, 2016 graduates from Lyle High School, Reco Quintero Lyle High School Senior for taking time from their busy schedules this summer to help sand and stain the picnic tables at the Lyle Activity Center with OLESS Board Member, Marc Harvey, and school staff person Rettai Rappy.

The tables look fabulous, they will be enjoyed by many and last a lot longer.

Thank you to the Lyle School District and to all the wonderful community volunteers who helped spruce up our playground and green-space on February 15. It looks fabulous and what a wonderful way to get Lyle ready for spring!!!

Thank you to:
  • Marcia Buser for 10 years of dedicated service as OLESS president.  Lots of volunteer hours!
  • Adrian Bradford who donated furniture for the entryway and helped guide us through obtaining our State Allocation
  • Gina Mosbrucker who helped make the State allocation happen
  • Warren Lightle of Lyle who has donated countless hours getting our old plumbing system in working order.
  • The Baha'i Youth Group that has put on car washes to raise money for the building.
  • Cadet for donating 4 desperately needed heaters -- for the two rest rooms, Nurses Office and Principals Office!
  • Friends of the Gorge and others who have chosen to donate, versus purchase raffle tickets, for our fall fundraiser.  Thank you!  Every donation helps.
  • Memaloose Wines of Lyle who donated the seed money that led to the exterior building painting.
  • Sherwin Williams Paint of The Dalles who donated half the primer and paint for the exterior building painting .
  • Oren Johnson, Lyle resident, for hundreds of hours of labor to prep and paint the building exterior.
  • Mark Morantes of Big River Electric for many hours of work to get our electrical system up to code and run power to the picnic pavilion.
  • Cycle Oregon for allowing us to host the rest stop on September 7, 2014 and donating $1000 to OLESS as a result!
